The CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE OF MADRID is an official Chinese language teaching centre affiliated with Chinese and Spanish public institutions: the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), and the Chinese Ministry of Education (CIEF and CLEC).

The CENTRE FOR EAST ASIAN STUDIES actively participated in its launch in 2007, making it the first Confucius Institute to be founded in Spain, and maintains an ongoing collaboration with it. It is currently based at the IES Beatriz Galindo secondary school, at Goya Street 10, 28001 Madrid.

The ICM has a teaching staff specializing in Chinese philology, teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and/or linguistics. Its teaching is based on different methods, including multimedia and the Internet, with an educational platform that facilitates communication between students and teachers. It is an official Chinese language proficiency exam centre (HSK, HSKK, YCT, HomeEdition, or BCT) and has been recognized for its excellent organization. It has more than 10 years of experience in preparing students for these tests. It awards its own scholarships for academic excellence and manages scholarships for studying in China. It organizes an urban camp in Madrid during the summer holidays (for children aged 6 to 12) and an annual summer camp in China (for young people aged 14 to 22). The entire educational community of the UAM and IES Beatriz Galindo has discounts on the activities organized by this institution.

The ICM develops academic activities in collaboration with prestigious universities in Spain and China, as well as competitions related to Chinese language and culture. It participates annually in the celebration of traditional Chinese festivities. It also regularly organizes a wide variety of activities in collaboration with city councils and cultural centers such as Cineteca, Matadero, the Chinese Cultural Center in Madrid, La Casa Encendida, the Eugenio Trías Library, the Naval Museum, and the Prado Museum.
